(Un)masked

Presented by Third Eye Dancers and Bharathakala Natya Academy, (UN)MASKED was a thought-provoking dance production choreographed by Smt. Subathra Sudarshan in collaboration with costume designer Sandhya Raman. The production explored the many roles a woman assumes throughout her life, from daughter and friend to partner, mother, and grandmother, and the expectations that accompany each stage. Through storytelling, music, and movement, the performance examined how these evolving identities can sometimes obscure one's true self.

Using the symbolism of masks, (UN)MASKED portrayed the emotional journey of a woman navigating societal expectations while searching for authenticity and self-discovery. Each chapter of the production revealed a different layer of her experience, highlighting themes of identity, resilience, sacrifice, and personal growth. The innovative costumes, inspired by the expressive artwork of children with autism, added a unique visual dimension to the performance.

Beyond its artistic message, (UN)MASKED served as a fundraiser supporting children with special needs through the International Medical Health Organization (IMHO). By combining meaningful social impact with compelling artistic expression, the production encouraged audiences to reflect on the many roles we play in life and the importance of embracing our authentic selves.
